David Arranges Ohio's First Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course, 1980 |
||
|
The year was 1980 and the State of Ohio wanted to participate in something new. Training of Motorcyclists to ride safely. It seemed like a pretty good idea, one that any motorcycle manufacturer should jump on quickly. Well, it was not as easy of a sell for the State of Ohio to get the motorcycles they needed to get started. None of the other major manufacturers were stepping up, so I went to my management at Suzuki. We crafted a program whereby we contracted with one of the largest Suzuki Dealers in the Area. Paul Ackers, owner of ASK, was very generous to accept, set up, and deliver the sparking new Suzuki TS 100's.to get the program started. To this day, Paul and his ASK dealerships are heavily involved with rider safety programs. Attached is the State of Ohio Newsletter with Paul and my picture as we present them to the State. This was the initial course where instructors were trained, so that the program could get started. I am proud to have had a part in the MSF program which I am sure has saved countless lives through proper training of motorcycle riders. |
